What is Shake-256

SHAKE-256 is a cryptographic hash function that takes an input and produces a message digest of 256-bit which is equivalent to 32 bytes. SHAKE-256 is a component of the SHA-3 (Secure Hash Algorithm 3) algorithm, which was released in August 2015 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

SHAKE-256 hash is composed of 64 hexadecimal characters. SHAKE will generate as many XOFs (Extendable Output Functions) as requested from its sponge. Instead of producing a fixed-length digest, it can generate outputs of any length.
